The 2023 season entered a new phase on Halloween night as the first set of College Football Playoff rankings were released, helping the postseason picture start to take shape in a very real way.

As much as the focus tends to be drawn toward the final four in the playoff itself, the selection committee’s decisions on which teams rank where have a far-reaching impact across the entire sport — particularly when it comes to certain teams going to certain bowls.

This year’s bowl picture is particularly unique given a variety of factors that include everything from conference realignment, changing postseason tie-ins, and a host of behind-the-scenes maneuvers that try to create the best possible matchup.

Current projections leave just enough bowl-eligible teams to where there won’t be a 5-7 team (potentially Northwestern, based on APR) selected, but there will be two final spots for FBS transitioning teams James Madison and Jacksonville State.

That’s subject to change depending on some potential upsets (or not) over the coming weeks, but this is another reason why things continue to change with each passing Saturday.

So, who’s going where at the moment?

Diving into the bowl selection process ahead of Week 10’s action, here’s a postseason projection on where every team from one to 82 is ticketed for the most wonderful time of year for college football fans.
