2024 Bronny James NBA Draft odds: Raptors keeping eye on James duo?

National Basketball Association
Updated Feb. 26, 2024 12:03 p.m. ET

It’s not guaranteed that Bronny James will enter the 2024 NBA Draft — but the sportsbooks are prepared if he does.

James — the son of Lakers superstar LeBron James — is a freshman at USC and was a top-30 recruit entering the college ranks.

His father has long made clear his intentions to play with his eldest son in the NBA, but LeBron turned 39 on Dec. 30, while Bronny turned 19 in October.

In other words, time is of the essence.

Bronny has played in 19 games (six starts) this season after suffering a cardiac arrest in July.

He is averaging 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 20.2 minutes per game.

Does Bronny James have the talent to make it in the NBA?

Unsurprisingly, the Lakers have the shortest odds to draft Bronny, but the Raptors made a big leap on the oddsboard, jumping from +1700 to +850, putting them right behind L.A.

A recent report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania suggested that the Raptors are keeping a close eye on the younger James, with the possibility of landing the USC prospect and his father.

L.A. currently does not have a first-round pick in the upcoming draft.

Also near the top of the oddsboard are two of LeBron’s former teams, the Heat (+950) and Cavaliers (+1100). Both teams currently own their first-round picks.

FOX Sports’ Ric Bucher recently talked with NBA executives and scouts about Bronny. Several suggested Bronny would benefit from another season at USC.

“He’s going to be a real solid NBA player,” a Western Conference executive told Bucher. “He’ll play in the league for 8–10 years. He’s not a superstar by any stretch of the imagination.

“Everybody wants him to be LeBron, and he’s never going to be LeBron. But he is a good team guy and he can defend and make shots. He’s a decent ball handler. He’s a solid player and a great kid.”

Former NBA player Matt Barnes was a recent guest on “All Facts No Brakes with Keyshawn Johnson.”

“Obviously, having that James name is going to help, but at the end of the day, it’s not going to help keep him there,” Barnes said.

“It may help him get the opportunity to get into the league. But I feel like he probably needs another year or two to hone his skills. … I think he is an NBA talent. But I feel like he could probably use another year or two under his belt. But the clock is ticking because you know LeBron’s ultimate goal is to play with his son.”
