2024 College Basketball championship odds: UConn moves ahead of Purdue on odds list

The defending champion UConn Huskies have separated from the Purdue Boilermakers atop the odds list for the men’s college basketball national title.

UConn (24-2) and Purdue (23-3) were tied atop the oddsboard last week at +650, but the Huskies have surged ahead of the Boilermakers to +450.

Being on a 14-game win streak and beating No. 4 Marquette in your most recent game will do that (81-53 on Saturday).

“There is no doubt who the best team in college basketball is right now, and there’s a somewhat significant gap between the top team in the sport and the rest of the field at this moment,” FOX Sports college basketball analyst John Fanta said.

The Boilermakers had a nine-game win streak snapped with a 73-69 loss at Ohio State on Sunday.

Third on the board are the Houston Cougars (23-3), who stayed put at +900.

Don’t look now, but the Kentucky Wildcats (18-7) are coming off a 70-59 win at Auburn. The odds for John Calipari’s team moved to +3000 from +4500.

Fanta was impressed by Kentucky in the win over Auburn.

“The Wildcats showed that they can defend on the big stage, holding Auburn to 31% from the field and 4-for-22 from 3-point territory in a shocking 70-59 road win,” Fanta said. “This caps off a big bounce-back week for John Calipari’s crew.

“Kentucky has some of the highest variance in NCAA Tournament results in the country this year. They could make the Final Four or lose in the first round and I wouldn’t be shocked.”
