Just a few weeks into the college football season and the playoff picture is already a hot topic.

The College Football Playoff is officially expanding to 12 teams this season, meaning an early-season loss or midseason conference loss might not torpedo a program’s chances of competing for a national title, like in years past.

That’s an important note, considering a few big-name programs have already suffered defeats.

Let’s check out the odds to make the 12-team Playoff at FanDuel Sportsbook as of Sept. 11.

The Buckeyes continue to have the shortest odds to make the newly formatted 12-team postseason. They were at -750 a week ago, which is where No. 1-ranked Georgia sits this week.

The biggest development after Week 2? Notre Dame’s current standing.

And while it hasn’t fallen off the board, it’s headed in that direction, after a 16-14 home loss to unranked Northern Illinois in Week 2.

The Irish entered that game as a 28-point favorite. With the loss, their odds to make the CFP moved from -390 — third on the board a week ago — to +300, 17th on the board.

Also taking a dive was Michigan, which sat at +210 to make the Playoff last week, 13th on the oddsboard. They are now 24th on the board at +550, after suffering a 31-12 home loss to Texas.

The Longhorns’ win moved them from fifth to third on the board.

Also taking a leap forward were the USC Trojans, who sit 12th on the oddsboard after not being in the top 15 last week.
