2024 College Football Playoff odds: Ohio State ahead of the pack

Four weeks into the college football season, and the playoff picture is already a hot topic.

The College Football Playoff is officially expanding to 12 teams this season, meaning an early-season loss or midseason conference loss might not torpedo a program’s chances of competing for a national title, like in years past.

That’s an important note, considering a few big-name programs have already suffered defeats.

Let’s check out the odds to make the 12-team Playoff at FanDuel Sportsbook as of Sept. 23.

BETTING FAVORITES TO MAKE 12-TEAM CFP PLAYOFF FIELD:

Ohio State: -850 (bet $10 to win $11.18 total)

Texas: -700 (bet $10 to win $11.43 total)

Georgia: -550 (bet $10 to win $10 to win $11.82 total)

Oregon: -400 (bet $10 to win $12.50 total)

Alabama: -350 (bet $10 to win $12.86 total)

Tennessee: -350 (bet $10 to win $12.86 total)

Ole Miss: -310 (bet $10 to win $13.23 total)

Penn State: -190 (bet $10 to win $15.26 total)

Miami: -180 (bet $10 to win $15.56 total)

Utah: +105 (bet $10 to win $20.50 total)

Missouri: +135 (bet $10 to win $23.50 total)

Notre Dame: +175 (bet $10 to win $27.50)

Clemson: +220 (bet $10 to win $32 total)

USC: +230 (bet $10 to win $33 total)

At -850, the Buckeyes continue to have the shortest odds to make the newly formatted 12-team postseason.

Next on the board is Texas at -700. The Longhorns have cruised to a 4-0 record, despite losing starting quarterback Quinn Ewers to an injury in Week 3.

Rounding out the top three is Georgia.

The Dawgs’ odds in this market have moved slightly to -550 from -850 over the last week. They had a Week 4 bye and will face Alabama in Tuscaloosa in Week 5.

Tennessee is another team whose odds are on the move.

After Week 4, the Volunteers’ odds to make the 12-team Playoff moved to -350 from -230. At the beginning of September, those odds were -110.

Similarly, the Volunteers’ odds to win the title surged up that board.
