2024 College Football Playoff odds: OSU owns best odds to make postseason
College football season has kicked off, with Weeks 0 and 1 already completed.
With the season underway, bettors are naturally diving into various ways to bet on the exciting year. To name a few, you can wager on national championship futures and Heisman odds.
At FanDuel Sportsbook, bettors can also wager on programs’ chances of actually earning a berth in the College Football Playoff.
With some big-named teams already going down, let’s take a look at the CFP odds as of Sept. 3.
BETTING FAVORITES TO MAKE 12-TEAM CFP PLAYOFF FIELD:
Ohio State: -750 (bet $10 to win $11.33 total)

At -750, the Buckeyes have the shortest odds to make the newly formatted 12-team postseason. One month ago, those odds were -650.
On an episode of Bear Bets, Colin Wilson of “The Action Network” noted that Ohio State’s price was “too high.”
“The price is horrible. Can somebody tell me why this team is -700 [at the time] to make the Playoff and Oregon is -300 [at the time] to make the Playoff, but they have the same win total?”
Fourth on the list is Texas at -230. The Longhorns’ odds got slightly shorter from -200 after opening their season with a decisive 52-0 win over Colorado State in Week 1.

Ninth on the list is Miami at +100.
The Hurricanes opened their season with a 41-17 victory over in-state rival Florida. In that game, Cam Ward — one of the favorites to win the Heisman — racked up 385 yards and three touchdowns.
“No Clemson and no NC State [on the schedule] … the toughest game they’re gonna play is at Cal,” FOX Sports betting analyst Geoff Schwartz said on an episode of “Bear Bets” regarding the Hurricanes’ chances of making the Playoff. “They’re a talented football team.
“Unlike some other teams who haven’t addressed the offensive and defensive lines, [head coach] Mario Cristobal has.”
