2024 MLB odds: Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge chasing triple crown
So far, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge have both had seasons for the ages.
Up to this point in his inaugural campaign with the Dodgers, Ohtani has been worth every penny of his 10-year, $700 million contract. As of Sept. 2, he is second in the league in home runs (44), tied for third in the league in RBIs (98) and eighth in hits (155).
In addition, he recently became the sixth member of the 40/40 club.
At the start of the season, Ohtani opened up at +950 to win NL MVP — it probably had something to do with the fact that he’s not pitching this season — but he’s since surged up the oddsboard due to his dominance at the plate.
Now, Ohtani is a commanding -2000 favorite to win the award at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Remarkably, Judge might even be having a better season than Sho Time.
As of Sept. 2, the Yankees slugger leads the league in home runs (51) and RBIs (123), and is second in the league in average (.327).
Judge is on pace for 60 home runs, as he’s notched his third season with more than 50 homers, a feat only achieved by Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Alex Rodriguez.
If he were to hit 63, it would also break his previous AL record of 62, and Judge is the -3000 favorite to win AL MVP at DraftKings.
Ohtani and Judge’s performances have been so impressive that DraftKings has posted odds for “Ohtani vs. the field” and “Judge vs. the field” for MVP in the NL and AL, respectively.
Let’s take a look at the odds as of Sept. 2.
Shohei Ohtani vs. Any Other Player:
Shohei Ohtani: -2000 (bet $10 to win $10.50 total)
Any other player: +600 (bet $10 to win $70 total)
Aaron Judge vs. Any Other Player:
Aaron Judge: -3000 (bet $10 to win $10.33 total)
Any other player: +1000 (bet $10 to win $110 total)
FanDuel Sportsbook also has an interesting prop bet to take advantage of these two historic seasons. It is offering odds for each of them to win the Triple Crown.
The Triple Crown — when a batter leads his league in average, homers and RBIs — has only been accomplished 18 times in MLB history. The only time both leagues had a Triple Crown winner was in 1933.
Let’s take a look at the odds as of Sept. 2.
Will Aaron Judge win the 2024 AL Triple Crown?
Yes: +470 (bet $10 to win $57 total)
No: -770 (bet $10 to win $11.30 total)
Will Shohei Ohtani win the 2024 NL Triple Crown?
Yes: +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total)
No: -2500 (bet $10 to win $10.40 total)
As mentioned previously, Judge currently leads all of baseball in home runs and RBIs. He is second in the AL in average.
In the NL, Ohtani is currently tops in homers and tied for first in RBIs. He is fifth in average.
Can these two continue to rearrange the record books?
