2024 NCAA Tournament projections: UNC jumps to a No. 1 seed, Michigan State on bubble
Conference play is heating up in college basketball, leading to six losses by top 10 teams occurring in the last week. Following that chaos, FOX Sports bracket forecaster Mike DeCourcy has made some changes among the top seeds in his latest NCAA Tournament projections.
UConn (East), Kansas (South) and Purdue (Midwest) remained as the No. 1 seeds while North Carolina (West) joined them on the top line in DeCourcy’s projections.
Tennessee and Houston remain on the 2-line, but they’re now joined by Arizona (who fell) and Wisconsin (who moved up). Kentucky moved down a seed and Baylor moved up a seed, with both joining Duke and Memphis as No. 3 seeds. Auburn, Illinois, Creighton and Marquette are No. 4 seeds, keeping the same top 16 teams from DeCourcy’s last projection.
As for the teams on the bubble, DeCourcy has New Mexico, Michigan State, Oregon and Kansas State as his last four teams in. Boise State, Ohio State, Gonzaga and Drake are DeCourcy’s first four teams out. Butler, Providence, Colorado and Cincinnati are his next four teams out.
The Big 12 has the most representatives in DeCourcy’s compilation, with the new-look conference leading the way with nine teams. The SEC is second with eight teams while the Big Ten and Big East are tied for third with six apiece. The ACC and Mountain West each have five teams in DeCourcy’s latest projections while the Pac-12 has three teams represented and the AAC has two.
