Immediately following the Kansas City Chiefs‘ thrilling overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, both teams opened atop the betting board as the favorites to win it all next season.

Five months after the big game, they remain the favorites — but there’s been a slight change at the top of the oddsboard.

With rookies reporting to training camp this week, and most of the veterans reporting next week, the Niners’ odds moved slightly from +550 to +600, and they’re now co-favorites alongside the Chiefs to win the Big Game.

Let’s check out the latest Super Bowl odds via FanDuel Sportsbook as of July 17.

Brandon Aiyuk requests trade. Who needs who more: 49ers or the WR?

Potentially complicating things for the Super Bowl co-favorite 49ers is that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk formally requested a trade from the team on July 16.

FOX Sports NFC West analyst Eric Williams explained why it could be costly to keep the talented wideout.

“[T]he 49ers already have receiver Deebo Samuel under contract for two more years on a three-year, $73.5 million deal,” he wrote.

“This offseason, San Francisco signed Christian McCaffrey to a new contract that makes him the highest-paid running back in the league. The Niners also have lucrative long-term deals with Nick Bosa, Trent Williams, Javon Hargrave, Fred Warner and George Kittle.

“And after the 2024 season, Brock Purdy will be eligible for a new contract that will make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

“Even with San Francisco chasing a Super Bowl, Aiyuk could be too expensive to keep beyond 2024. To protect themselves at the position, the 49ers signed No. 3 receiver Jauan Jennings to a two-year, $15.4 million deal and drafted receivers Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing in April.”

The team’s odds did not shift upon release of the news.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are looking to make it three rings in a row. FOX Sports NFL analyst Henry Mckenna feels they have the feel of another recent dynasty.

“What’s in store for Mahomes and the Chiefs this year? Well, the team might have improved offensively, with an influx at receiver (Marquise Brown and speedy rookie Xavier Worthy),” Mckenna said.

“The Chiefs still have some questions at left tackle, between Wanya Morris (who finished the year for them) and Kingsley Suamataia, a 2024 second-round pick, lurking as competition. The defense also had two veterans depart: LB Willie Gay and safety Mike Edwards.

“The Chiefs will continue to be perennial contenders if Mahomes and coach Andy Reid do what they’ve been doing — adjust to the needs of the current roster. That’s how Brady and Bill Belichick built their dynasty for two decades.”

Super Bowl LIX will be played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Feb. 9, 2025, and will be broadcast on FOX and the FOX Sports app.
